Emerald Waters from Above
Location – Vaghies
Just a short drive past bustling Faliraki on Rhodes’ eastern coast lies the breathtaking cove of Anthony Quinn Bay—officially known as “Vaghies.” Nestled in a natural amphitheater of pine-covered cliffs, this intimate beach stretches about 250 meters, blending fine sand, smooth pebbles, and rocky outcrops both above and below the surface. The vibrant green of the trees meets the shimmering turquoise of the sea, creating a striking palette of emerald tones. It’s a paradise for those who love snorkeling, diving, and swimming in secluded waters, with dramatic underwater landscapes waiting to be explored. No wonder it’s a favorite stop for sailing and excursion boats!
Why “Anthony Quinn” Bay

Mr. Anthony Quinn with Gregory Peck during the filming of The Guns of Navarone
While filming the movie “The Guns of Navarone,” the Mexican actor Anthony Quinn (the same actor who famously played Zorba the Greek) bought this part of the island, hoping to create an international center for artists and filmmakers. He fell in love with this miniature bay. Unfortunately, this did not become a reality despite his efforts and investments. Locals got used to calling it the “Anthony Quinn’s” bay, so this name persists to this present day.

Beach facilities at Anthony Quinn Bay
Anthony Quinn Bay is easily accessible by road, making it a convenient escape—but be sure to arrive early, as parking is limited and fills up quickly during the high season. Sun loungers and umbrellas are available for rent at approximately €10 per person, providing a comfortable spot to take in the stunning views. Perched near the top of the stairway, a stylish beach bar serves up fresh snacks, crisp salads, and refreshing drinks with a view. For the more adventurous, the bay also offers a range of beach activities, including kayaking, snorkeling, and scuba diving, with equipment rentals available directly on the beach.
For a quieter experience, bring water shoes and head to the left-hand side of the beach, where you’ll find smoother rocks and better snorkeling.
Unforgettable hike

The hiking path along the Anthony Quinn Bay
Why not pack a pair of sports shoes along with your beach towel? The rocky terrain surrounding Anthony Quinn Bay offers a fantastic opportunity for a scenic hike. A cliffside path begins on the left-hand side of the beach, leading adventurous visitors along a rugged route toward the southern edge of Faliraki. Though the trail is moderately challenging due to its uneven surface and rocky steps, the reward is more than worth the effort—panoramic views of the coastline and sparkling Aegean Sea unfold as you ascend. The path culminates at a small observatory perched at 126 meters (414 feet), offering one of the most breathtaking vantage points in the area.
Kounna Experience

The name “Kounna” is a playful twist on Greek roots—a mix of “kouna,” meaning “to swing,” and “koni,” meaning “cone.”
