„And after this tour… Hey! You are practically a local!”
Embark on a full-day tour exploring Rhodes unspoiled countryside, as we will be traveling through the most scenic mountain route of Rhodes island! Learn about our traditions, discover Byzantine, Medieval and recent Historical Monuments. The picturesque beauty of the Western Coastline will surely surprise and charm you!
Sit back in our comfortable medium-size coach and enjoy Manos most scenic guided tour of Rhodes unspoiled countryside. There are so many things we want to tell and show you during this tour! We will be getting on and off exploring historical sites, uniquely lovely churches, abandoned monuments, mingle with locals and make unforgettable photographs.
Begin your day with a visit to ELEOUSA village—established by Italians. It served as an army base with some 30,000 Italian soldiers. They have left behind a unique sanatorium building, a church, and a beautiful fountain that stores water brought from the mountains.
You will then stop to explore the historic 15 ct. Byzantine church of St. NICOLAS FOUNDOUKLIS. As you admire the impressive Byzantine murals, you will learn the history of this unique monument.
Continue the tour upwards the mountain PROPHET ELIAS, through a thick pine forest at an altitude 800m (2,624.67ft) and forget for a moment that you are on Rhodes! You will discover two luxury hotels named Elafos and Elafina (meaning the Doe and the Buck) designed in Alpine style and built between 1929 and 1932. They were used to host officials who visited the island, kings and governors would have their lunches and dinners there before going hunting! One of the hotels is renovated using as many original features, fixtures, and fittings from the early 30s as possible! Next to the hotels, you will also find a dilapidated Villa di Vecchi, which was the country home of an Italian governor. Enjoy your leisure time either exploring the area or have a fresh orange juice or coffee in the hotel square.
And off we go to Rhodes WINE DISTRICT! As we approach the lively village EMBONA, situated at the foot of Rhodes highest mountain Attavyros 1,215m (3,986.22ft), you will see vineyards and mountain slopes with vines, and learn about Rhodes’ wine industry and Rhodian grapes „Athiri” and „Amorgiano.” Rhodes has two Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) wines. Did you know that Rhodes was the biggest wine exporter in the region as far back as the 7th c. BC? Let’s stop on the way and allow our taste buds a new discovery! Get an introduction to Rhodian wines and taste some of our most favorite ones. And of course, no-one leaves without tasting the strong local spirit „souma.” Yamas, my friend!!!
We will then have some free leisure time either for lunch in a traditional village tavern (we are sure that tasty food smells will conquer even the least hungry person) or go further exploring little shops selling handicrafts made by local women.
To continue with the tour, we have left our “desert” for the end! Let us WOW-you with one of the most breath-taking sites of the Western coastline—16 nearby islands into the endless Aegean blue horizon from the top of a medieval castle in KRITINIA! Take in the gorgeous vistas over the Aegean Sea as you imagine life for Knights who constructed the imposing castle.
We can’t wait to reveal you all of that!

We had a fantastic set of trips booked from manos going. Hassle free from booking at reception to a rep taking payment in advance giving us a run down of the days we booked. We would firstly like to thank all the staff/family on the Viking Royal they were so welcoming and friendly. The trip was so relaxing plus fun got to swim in a cave and snorkel had lunch and drink provided. A massive bonus for us was a small crowd on the boat and relaxing music unlike other packed boats and boom boom music. The captain was very knowledgeable been sailing since 1987 you’re in safe hands. He often sat with us talking away with his wife and daughter, daughters partner and nephew made it feel very personal loved it. Please thank them for us and know that they are doing a stella job for Manos going. Island...Bizzle1986
We were picked up from our hotel by our very friendly and informative guide for the day, Manos. The mini bus was clean and well air conditioned, and took us to some absolutely beautiful stops across the island with plenty of time at each stop to take the views in and get photographs. There was also the opportunity to taste some delicious local honey, wines and olive oil; as well as some traditional Greek dishes before our visit to Kritinia Castle. We thoroughly enjoyed our day and recommend the experience to anyone visiting Rhodes! Thank you! Freya & Ellis.Bladdeira
Well done Manos. This is great value and a wonderful trip. The recommended restaurant for lunch was excellent. Never tasted such wonderful Mousaka all home made. The guide Marrianne was so knowledgable and provided very interesting information. If you want to do a tour when in Rhodes this is the one. The alternative could be a full sized coach with 60 passengers.Ann W
We were recommended by friends to see Manos for our day trips having been on several on their visits to Rhodes. We went to see Manos & Gunta who were incredibly friendly and couldn’t do enough for us, offering us the Rhodes Island Tour on the Friday. Our guide, Marianne was incredibly knowledgeable and she claims she talks too much but she knew so much about the island, the history and the different parts – we were more than happy to listen! The driver was polite & friendly too doing well to navigate the narrow roads up the mountain! The tour itself stopped at various points of interest; an abandoned village, a beautiful fountain, hunters lodge, vineyard, mountain village for lunch and a stunning hilltop castle with panoramic views across the islands. My favourite part of the tour was definitely the local wine, honey and olive oil tasting midway through...Andy T
