Self-Guided transfer to Butterfly Valley: 2.5 Hrs Free Time to Explore
During Summer the Butterfly Valley is one of the most visited nature attractions of Rhodes. It is an evergreen Oasis dotted with wooden bridges, waterfalls, and rustic paths weaving along the Pelekanos river! It is where the rare type of butterfly – Panaxia Quatripunktaria can be spotted during the hottest Summer months. A visit to the Valley can be a great Half-day outing for nature lovers and families with 2.5 hours of free time to experience the cool microclimate of the canyon, see Liquidambar trees, joyfully watch hundreds of butterflies on tree trunks and rocks, learn about endemic and rare species of Rhodes in the little museum of Natural History, or walk all the way up to a little Monastery for a great Panoramic View. We provide convenient pick-up from Faliraki, Kallithea, Rhodes Town, Ixia, and Ialyssos resorts with our medium-size coach with Full A/C for a comfortable and direct drive.
Did you know that Rhodes is one of the greenest islands of Greece? Due to countless underground streams and springs, there are many verdant valleys. The Valley of the Butterflies or Petaludes (Πεταλούδες) goes through the Canyon of the Pelekanos River and forms an ideal ecosystem for the rare species of moth – Kalimorphos Panaxia Quatripunctaria or Jerseytiger moth. The favorable combination of humidity and constant temperature (between 24-30 C/ 75,2-86 F) with Liquidambar Styrax trees attracts these insects in great amounts during hot summer months – from June to September. If you are lucky, you can also spot friendly crabs!
The Valley is beautifully formed with wooden bridges over pools and falls of water, paved footpaths, and little benches to enjoy the scenery. It is an ideal place for a small distance excursion for families, couples, and small &big nature lovers!
Join us on our Butterfly Valley half-day outing with fast and worry-free pick-ups from Ialyssos, Ixia, Rhodes Town, and Kallithea with our modern and brand new medium-size coach. We ensure a comfortable, direct transfer with plenty of free time (2,5 hours) to explore the Valley.
It takes approx. 45 minutes to reach the Petaloudes. Our drive is through Rhodes countryside with a beautiful landscape full of olive, cypress, pomegranate, and citrus fruit trees. Upon arrival, your driver will give you clear instructions about the meeting place for the return trip, explain where is best to start exploring the canyon, and give you a small map with directions.
You will then have plenty of free time to lose yourself in this green oasis! It is truly a unique scenery to see hundreds of butterflies in their natural habitat. Also, walk all the way up to a little Monastery for a great Panoramic View, or visit a small museum of Natural history to learn about endemic and rare species.
After your visit, our friendly driver will wait for you at the parking area for the return transfer.
